Makhana: The Treasure of Nutrition
Introduction: Makhana is an aquatic product rich in nutrients. It is also called fox nut or lotus seed. It grows in ponds, lakes and swamps. Since it is cultivated in water, no chemical fertilizer is used in it, hence it is an organic food. It also has medicinal properties. It is produced the most in the state of Bihar. It has been used in fasting and religious functions in India since ancient times. Makhana is a good source of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, iron and zinc.
