Avoid Giving Excessive Comforts to Children
Mr. Pramod’s business was quite extensive. He had two moon-like daughters. The wife was also well educated. Initially, Pramod’s wife was very interested in the education of children and her daughters were also good in studies. But when they had more money, Pramod’s wife also joined many women’s clubs.
Mr. Pramod was already busy and thus gradually the children also became careless about studies. Mrs. Pramod was shocked when she came to know that her elder daughter had failed in the pre-board. They got this information from the school.
The teacher of the second daughter also told her that she too was lagging behind in studies. Parents asked and scolded the children, what have we deprived you of? We even arranged two tuitions each, then how did you score so low? Both daughters had only one answer, ‘Papa, this is the age for fun. If we don’t have fun at this age, when will we do it? God has given a lot of money to our parents.’
Mrs. Savita is the principal of a college. His only son Mayank is proud that he can easily get admission anywhere. My mother is very well known in the education department. Why do I need to work so hard? In this way, Mayank passed with 60 percent marks and due to his mother’s high status, he got admission in an engineering college, but now he had developed the habit of not working hard. Thus, he failed in engineering college in the second year. On the strong recommendation of his mother, he was sent to the third year but again the situation remained the same. He could never become an engineer.
Follow the following tips to make your child a good citizen:
- Parents should never flaunt their high status in front of their children.
- Do not let children feel that you can get their work done by high recommendation or by high power.
- Give children limited pocket money right from the beginning so that they can learn to spend within limits.
- Even if you have money, do not accumulate too many material comforts.
- Don’t give children too much financial freedom.
- Do not tell children about the profit you have made in your business, nor tell them that if I get this project then I will earn so much profit.
- Do not discuss the profit and loss of business with your wife or friends in front of the children.
- If you are in a good or powerful position then do not boast in front of children that I can do this or I can get that done.
- Do not buy a big household item at the behest of your children. Buy it only after thinking well and consulting them. While buying, make your children realize that they had to work hard before spending money on this item or they have fulfilled your or their household needs by withdrawing from their savings that are meant for emergencies.
- Make children realize some of the shortcomings too, so that they can become responsible and understand the compulsions of others instead of making fun of them.
- Do not be careless about education. If necessary, arrange for books, tuition etc. and also fulfill the responsibility of a good parent.
- Parents should also try to limit their hobbies so that their wealth does not show. Help your child in becoming a good citizen. Keep making him realize his responsibilities. Do not stop your child from becoming an ideal citizen with your high status and power.
- Even if you have enough money, you should provide your children with luxuries as per their need. When one gets used to unnecessary luxuries, it becomes very difficult to live without them.
