Don’t Make Your Home a Cage –Whether the cage is made of iron or silver or gold, it always reminds the bird that its wings have been tied. It is a prisoner. Now even if it wants, it cannot fly freely in the open sky. The reason for this is that it is now dependent on the mercy of its master. No matter how many delicious dishes are fed to that bird every day, it loves the bitter taste of freedom more. Of course, it has to live in fear of bigger birds, yet the bird enjoys that hide and seek.
Similarly, whether the house is a palace, a farm house, a flat or a dilapidated hut, but if the members of the house do not agree with each other after meeting or talking, then everything becomes useless. If the members of the house are at loggerheads with each other, they become annoyed on seeing the face of another member. In such a situation, all the luxuries of that house start looking like dust. No one feels like staying in such a house, one feels like running away from there. No one enjoys even the best dishes prepared daily in that house.
If there is love and affection among the family members, there is happiness and peace even in a small house or a dilapidated hut. They feel the taste of fifty-six different food items even in the dry roti cooked there, which everyone eats together with love. No matter how many problems come in the house, every problem can be solved sitting together. With everyone’s cooperation, it becomes easier to deal with them.
The youth have to work hard at home. Therefore, they have to remain busy in their jobs from morning to evening. The elders and children are left behind at home. It is the responsibility of the parents to impart such values to the children that they obey the elders; sit near the elders; share with them things about their school and friends; do their school homework by sitting near the elders, watch TV and play some indoor games. By doing this, the time of the elders passes and they do not feel lonely. The day of the children also passes well and they do not get bored.
Getting food on time to fill their stomach is not enough for the elderly, it is also important to make them feel that they are not a burden on the family. Their children need them very much. Due to increasing age, their body becomes weak and they are unable to work. Therefore, the problem of passing time always troubles them. They keep waiting for the children to return from school and the house to become lively. Those who are scared of their loneliness, feel very comfortable when their children come home.
This is very wrong and can also be put in the category of uncivilized that the elders sitting at home call their children and they refuse to come to them or reply to them very rudely. The elderly remain alone at home all day. If the children of the house also do not go to their grandparents, they will become disappointed and frustrated. This loneliness in old age is no less than a curse.
Scared by this loneliness, some people even commit a heinous act like suicide. This is a great sin according to all religions. ‘A suicidal person is a great sinner’. Moreover, some people suffer from depression. Friends or relatives of the elders living at home will come to meet them. If the children do not welcome them, it will reflect their values. This will also show how heartless those children are becoming.
I want to add one more thing which is very important. During the day, all the members of the family cannot sit together and eat food due to their busy schedules, but at night, all of them should eat together. This keeps the love among the members of the family intact. If any member has any problem, it can also be discussed while sitting there.
One should try to make the house a home. It should be saved from becoming a cage or a prison. If children are not taught good values today, tomorrow they will become stubborn, outspoken and irritable. This affects the elders as well as the parents. It is the ultimate responsibility of all the members of the family to live in harmony with each other and maintain brotherhood.
In this way, no member of the family will feel suffocated due to the establishment of harmony. It will be convenient for everyone to spend his life happily.
