KPMSOL conducted a workshop on – “Paralegal Volunteer Training Programme”
The Kirit P. Mehta School of Law in Mumbai recently conducted a workshop titled “Paralegal Volunteer Training Programme” in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Prerna from January 29th to February 2nd, 2024. The Legal Aid and Support Centre of the Kirit P. Mehta School of Law organized the workshop.
Event representative informed the Sachi Shiksha reporter, the primary goal of the workshop was to instill legal awareness and promote knowledge about legal rights. Distinguished speakers such as Sri Ananat Deshmukh (Secretary of DLSA, Mumbai), Dr. Pravin Patkar, Ms. Geetarani Lourembam, Ms. Pooja Yadav, Ms. Rashmi Taylor, Advocate Aileen Marquez, Ms. Deepti Savant, Dr. Ananad Kasle, Ms. Priti Patkar, Ms. Vaishali Bhakte and Mr. Umesh Joshi were invited to share their expertise.
Topics addressed during the training included the POSH Act, Family laws, POCSO Act and the role of support persons, Constitution of India, Juvenile Justice Act – sections related to children in need of care and protection, Juvenile Justice Act – sections related to adoption, Cybercrime and related laws, socio-economic report of undertrial prisoners, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and Immoral Traffic Act.
Representative further added, the comprehensive training covered various aspects, including legal procedures, community engagement, and the pivotal role of Para Legal Volunteers in ensuring access to justice. Students underwent intensive training sessions designed to provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective community service.
The program also included a field visit to Byculla Prison, Byculla Police Station, Mazgaon Court, and the DLSA Office, allowing participants to gain practical insights into the functioning and proceedings of these institutions
