International Yoga Day (21 June) Yoga is a Gift to Life
Introduction: Yoga is the journey of the self through the self towards the self.’ This teaching of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is very important for the modern lifestyle. Yoga combines strength and flexibility exercises with relaxation and meditation. The word ‘yoga’ itself means to unite. Often, in the haste to live a fulfilling life, a person gets separated from spirituality and peace. In this race of modernity, it has become difficult for most people to find time for themselves. The need to balance family and work and find some time for oneself remains unfulfilled. Due to such troubles and worries, a person often gives birth to many diseases which affect the body and mind.

Importance of yoga
Why is yoga important in modern life? Actually, yoga is a gift given to us by our ancestors, saints, sages to awaken our dormant abilities. If we practice yoga postures in our daily life, it will help us to strengthen our body. And the practice of meditation will help us improve our focus which is most important for a person in modern life. By doing yoga for one hour daily, a person will sweat and remove all the impurities from the body. The breathing rate will also improve which will absorb oxygen properly. Thus, our system works properly, efficiently and effectively. Yoga is not only beneficial for physical fitness, but yoga can change our life and help us live a better lifestyle.
Yoga Helps Clear Mental Clutter
In the modern lifestyle, humans have reduced human contact, as we have become so busy in completing our tasks that we have to complete before the deadline and if we get time, we start looking at what is happening in the world through social media on our smartphones. All these things have confused our mind more than ever. We do not understand our mind well and we have lost control over it. The result is coming in the form of mental problems, which has become a global epidemic today. Also, the lack of foresight due to constantly being on smartphones and laptops can harm us badly. Yogasanas that can help get rid of this problem are – Uttanasana (also known as Standing Forward Bend Pose), Viparita Karani (also known as Legs-up-the-Wall Pose), Shavasana (also known as Corpse Pose).
June 21 is a Long Day
21 June is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21 June, from that perspective yoga makes a person live longer. On 11 December 2014, the proposal of ‘International Yoga Day’ on 21 June was approved by 177 members of the United Nations. This proposal of India was passed with full majority within 90 days, which is the shortest time for passing any proposed day in the United Nations.
Laughter is also a Form of Yoga-
Laughter is a process that has only positive effects on the human body, as the role of the mind becomes secondary or negligible in the process of laughing. Laughter yoga is a technique that offers many benefits. It encourages practitioners to approach their practice with a sense of joy and curiosity, while also serving as a preventive measure against mental health issues such as depression, stress, and anxiety.
Yoga Makes Us Disciplined
Sometimes we start doing many tasks at once due to workload or deadline of a given task etc., which makes us unhappy and a bit confused. Like which task should be completed first and we do not list the things or we do not analyze the things that need to be done first. In such a situation, yoga can prove to be helpful like Vrikshasana (also known as Tree Pose), Garudasana (also known as Eagle Pose), Ushtrasana (also known as Camel Pose).
Yoga Reduces Stress
In the present times, man seems to be less physically active but more mentally active. Thousands of things are going on in the human mind at the same time and which can affect physically, such as high and low blood pressure, depression, anxiety, nervousness, increased stress, etc. can be due to the role of technology in our lives. In such a situation, these yogas can be helpful like Sukhasana (also known as Easy Pose), Balasana (also known as Child’s Pose), Anand Balasana (also known as Happy Baby Pose).
