Others Should Learn From Dera Sacha Sauda
In November 2012, the Dera Sacha Sauda under the supervision of Revered Guruji Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh ji Insan carried out a massive cleanliness drive on the banks of the Ganga.
Close to five lakh devotees wiped clean the twin cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh in a single go. The volunteers may have left residents of Haridwar, Rishikesh and Roorkee awestruck by their meticulous methods, but more importantly they sent a message – that of keeping their city and environs clean.
Incidentally, it’s the filth and garbage strewn on the streets and Ghats of the river that end up in the water, polluting it. It was this very filth that the Dera volunteers did away with.
However, the most important outcome of the entire exercise was the message it sent out to the various organizations – that rather than idle talk, it was important to practice what you preach.

The Ganga cannot and will not remain clean on its own. Efforts are required to clean it and also to ensure that the environment around it stays clean.
Guruji vows to clean the Yamuna
In fact, Revered Guruji even stated then that he was willing undertake the initiative of cleaning the Yamuna, if of course the government approves His drive.
Back then, while addressing reporters, Guruji had said that the Yamuna Project was in the pipeline and the authorities had been approached for it.
With such a large mobilization of motivated and suitably equipped manpower, the task was not impossible. However, heavy machinery would certainly be required for dredging the banks clean, He added.
“We are ready to embark on a cleanliness campaign for all polluted rivers and will also clean up places of pilgrimage and religious interest.”
Guruji was surprised that despite making several public announcements and repeated pleas to the representatives of the governments in various states, no one had expressed an interest.
Calling the government’s apathy strange, Guruji noted that Dera Sacha Sauda had offered to do it on its own accord and did not require any funds from the government.
