True Blood Pump – Salute the Spirit
A mega blood donation camp, held across states, by Dera Sacha Sauda on Saturday turned out to be a lesson on awareness.
Within mere 8 hours, a staggering 75,771 units of blood was donated at over 200 places across the country.
Massive enthusiasm was witnessed among followers of the Dera who queued up in camps to donate blood. Arrangements made on war footing to receive blood were dwarfed by the sheer size of humanity that turned up to give blood, a deed termed noble by the Revered Guruji. The first ones to donate blood in the camp, inaugurated by Guru Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, were the members of Guruji’s Family.
This kicked off a series of 200 camps held across states including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka besides New Delhi. More than 2 lakh people had registered to donate blood in the camp. Speaking at the inauguration, Guruji said, “If somebody’s life can be saved by donating our blood, then what more noble deed there could be than to donate blood? Even science corroborates now that giving blood ensures that several diseases stay at bay. And giving blood also solves lot of your worries, family problems. Religious texts also mention that any form of charity related to body, like taking the sick to hospital, saving somebody’s life, donating blood, promote internal and external happiness and well being.”.
Guruji recounted that when the Dera had embarked upon the program, there were myths among people, wrong notions, that giving blood causes any kind of weakness, but these false notions are finally getting busted and people are getting aware about the need to give life, by donating blood. If more people come forward to give blood, only then black marketing of blood can be ended. Guruji added that it is sheer enthusiasm of blood donors that have earned them a title of True Blood Pump.
Blood camps are being held for the Indian Army, children afflicted with Thalassemia, and those in need, at the end of every month, on the Saturday prior to the last sunday. Guruji said that 1 lac 41 thousand 935 litres of blood has been donated in camps held by Dera Sacha Sauda till date. In addition more than one lakh volunteers have filled forms offering to donate blood regularly every three months.
“The well prepared teams that collect blood often fall short in their arrangements, such is the enthusiasm of donors,” said Guruji. Guruji reminded that even the previous record of donating 43732 units of blood within 8 hours is registered in the name of Dera Sacha Sauda. Now the Dera is organising such camps in countries like New Zealand, England, Australia, Italy and other Arab countries. Guruji said that Dera Sacha Sauda has initiated 101 deeds of goodness and giving blood, pledging organs, eyes are included.
The country’s capital, New Delhi, became witness to the enthusiasm of Dera followers for the third time as thousands of people turned up for the camp. The last year on September 21st and 22nd, Delhi had witnessed in awe as more than 4 lakh followers of the Dera swept clean the entire city in less than two hours. Before that, on 10 and 11 September, four lakh enthusiasts had within 16 hours cleaned up the entire city.
Making Records not the aim, they happen anyway Dera Sacha Sauda has a string of world records in blood donation. With yet another record to its credit, Guruji said, “The aim of these donation camps is not to break records.
An enthusiast who travels great distances to reach the allotted camp for donation, waits in queues for hours, does not take all the trouble for the sake of any record. He does that out of devotion, a belief that he wants to do good for others. With such firm belief held by thousands and lakhs, world records, happen on the way, on their own. ” The followers of the Dera have 15 world records to their credit and the Dera’s name is registered in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Out of these, 3 world records are for maximum donation of blood and one about the awareness regarding donation. These include the record made on December 7, 2008 when within 8 hours, 15,432 units of blood were donated, on 10 October 2004, 17,921 units of blood were donated and on August 8, 2010, within 8 hours, 43, 732 units of blood were donated. On November 24, 2013, 10563 people stood together forming a drop of blood to generate awareness.
Dera launches yet another campaign against female foeticide Guruji said that those killing the female fetus in the womb are committing the worst crime, nothing short of murder. Urging people not to kill girls but let the child live. “Girls are outshining boys in all the fields today, be it education, sports, even defence.
Dera will launch a campaign asking doctors, sonographers to sign up pledging never to reveal the gender of a baby to the parents, something which is illegal and the root where the ill of foeticide begins,” said Guruji. He said that Dera Sacha Sauda has set up houses for such unwanted and destitute girls, who would otherwise have been killed by the parents.
These girls are adopted by Guruji as his own daughters and given the title of Shahi Betian or the Royal Daughters. Best education is being provided to the girls, most of whom are toppers in CBSE affiliated schools, and have also made world records in field of sports.
