Dera Volunteers Became a Protective Shield for Flood Hit Musahibwala Village
After about 13 years, Ghaggar again showed its fierce form and took the villages around the embankments in its arms. While entering Haryana via Punjab, Ghaggar captured the villages of Ranga and Musahibwala.
The rising water level started touching the outer periphery of Musahibwala village, due to which the population of the village was also in danger. In such dire circumstances, the volunteers of Dera Sacha Sauda held hands with the villagers and worked day and night to strengthen the dam. Although the district administration was also providing help to the villagers, the villagers admired with open hearts the dedication with which the volunteers of Shah Satnam Ji Green S Welfare Force Wing of Dera Sacha Sauda were engaged in service.
Valuables were Safely Transported from Waterlogged Farm Houses to Safer Places
About 550 acres of area on the north-west side of Musahibwala village was submerged due to the surge in Ghaggar. On July 15, the sudden rise of the water level broke the ring dam and turned towards the village. About half a dozen dhanis (farm houses) of the village were engulfed by water. In this time of trouble, the volunteers of Dera Sacha Sauda reached out in large numbers, took out people along with their valuables from the submerged area and transported the same to safer places.
Sarpanch Narendra Kumar told that the water coming in Ghaggar was moving towards the residential areas of the village. One-third of the area of the village was waterlogged, causing huge economic loss to the farmers. The effort of the Panchayat was to somehow keep the people of the village safe in this tragedy. In this work the cooperative effort of the volunteers of Dera Sacha Sauda was commendable.
The task of strengthening the embankment built in about 3 kilometer area of the village was taken up by the brave volunteers of Dera Sacha Sauda. The special thing to mention was that these volunteers had come with tractor-trolleys, and they also had their own equipment and empty bags. These bags were filled with sand & used in strengthening the embankment.
Praising the efforts of the brave heart volunteers, Nambardar Saiditta said that many other social organizations also extended the services of free food etc., but the Dera volunteers themselves remained busy day and night in strengthening the embankments by pouring soil on them. The farm houses of Gurdev Singh and Gurcharan Singh were surrounded by water from all sides, but the Dera Volunteers maintained regular contact with the family members through boat and kept providing all essential facilities including food & medicines.
Flood relief work was carried out by Dera Sacha Sauda on administrative request. About 900 volunteers were carrying out relief work in this entire area including Musahibwala, Bharokha and Farwai villages. Along with strengthening the embankments, the volunteers also helped in taking the valuables from the submerged farm houses to safer places, risking their own lives.
