Take Care Before Using Medicines
Nowadays it is often seen that people go to the doctor and consult him only in some incurable or dreadful circumstances, otherwise they treat minor ailments like headache, stomachache, backache, etc. themselves. They aggravate the disease by going to the chemist on their own and taking medicines according to their own dosages, etc., and then go to the doctor.
Self-medication is harmful, and due to not knowing all the necessary instructions related to the medicine, the medicines are also not effective.
Let us get acquainted with the necessary information from buying medicines to using them:-
- While buying medicines, it is necessary to first check the expiry date printed on it. If the medicine has crossed its expiry date or only one month is left, then do not buy that medicine. If it is not harmful for any reason, then it will not be beneficial either.
- After buying the medicines, you must show them to the doctor who has prescribed them before using them. This will assure you that the medicines are as prescribed by the doctor.
- Shake well before opening and using syrup and drops for eyes, ears etc. Once opened, keep using these medicines continuously until they are finished.
- Some people start using syrup and drops and get benefits in just two-three doses and leave the remaining medicines for later or start giving them to someone else when they have the same disease. This method can prove to be harmful.
- Medicines should always be kept in a cool and dark place. It is better to keep medicines away from sunlight, heat etc.
- The dosage of medicines should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. Taking less or more dosage as per your discretion can be harmful.
- The medicines should be taken with the substance (milk, juice, butter, honey, ginger juice, water or any other substance) as advised by the doctor. It is not beneficial to include your own will in this.
- It is mandatory to follow the rules prescribed by the doctor for taking medicines like before eating, after eating, one hour after eating, morning, afternoon, evening etc.
- The medicine prescribed by the doctor should be taken only in the quantity prescribed. Some people want to manage with ten tablets instead of thirty, which is not appropriate.
- Doctors give some medicines from their clinic and prescribe some to be bought from the chemist. Medicines should be bought at the same time itself. It is not right to leave it for tomorrow and make do with only the medicine given by the doctor.
- Whatever instructions are given by the doctor regarding abstinence, proportion, intake etc. while taking the medicine, they must be followed.
- Medicines of several members of the same family (if any) should be kept separately so that one person does not consume the medicine of another. Also, medicines should be kept away from the reach of small children, otherwise the child may consume them and you may also get into trouble.
