Varchas 2026: IIT Jodhpur to Turn into a Sporting Hub from October 30 to November 1
Three days of sports, teamwork and student engagement as participants take a break from classroom routines
Jodhpur: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur will host Varchas 2026, its annual sports festival, from October 30 to November 1, 2026. With classes suspended for all three days, the campus will provide students an opportunity to step away from their academic routines and participate in sporting competitions, recreational activities and social engagement.

A Sporting Tradition Since 2011
First organised in 2011, Varchas has grown into a major sporting event in the region, bringing together teams from colleges across India. Alongside IIT Jodhpur’s other prominent festivals, Ignus and Prometeo, Varchas contributes to campus life by encouraging students to explore their interests beyond academics, build connections and develop teamwork.
A Wide Range of Sporting Competitions
The festival will feature cricket, football, basketball, badminton, athletics, chess, kabaddi, tennis, volleyball, squash, table tennis and weightlifting. Previous editions have attracted more than 1,200 players from across the country. Participants will compete across disciplines, with teams aiming to secure the overall championship.
Beyond Competition: Recreation and Social Awareness
Varchas will also include informal activities that allow students to participate without the pressure of winning. A DJ Night will add to the festive atmosphere, offering students an opportunity to relax and celebrate with their peers.
The festival’s social initiative, Soch, will encourage discussions and awareness around issues that extend beyond campus life. Through this initiative, Varchas aims to connect student participation with broader social concerns.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
A festival representative told Sachi Shiksha that Varchas offers students an opportunity to experience teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy competition while taking a break from their demanding academic schedules. The event also encourages interaction among students from different institutions, helping them develop friendships and create lasting memories.
By bringing together sporting contests, recreational activities and social engagement, Varchas 2026 seeks to make campus life more enriching and inclusive.
