Natrang Ubha Fest: Marathi Theatre’s Journey to Come Alive at ‘Inaugural 2026’ in Mumbai
Mumbai (Sachi Shiksha News): The Marathi Vangmay Mandal (MVM) of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, has announced ‘Inaugural 2026’, based on the theme ‘Natrang Ubha’, celebrating the rich journey and evolving forms of Marathi theatre across generations. The event will be held on September 26, 2026, at the College Hall of St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.

The theme will trace the transformation of Marathi theatre—from traditional and historical forms to contemporary theatre shaped by social changes, new ideas and experimentation. Despite these changes, storytelling continues to remain at the heart of theatre.
Through a combination of music, dance, drama, literature and art, the event will present different facets of Marathi theatre while connecting its traditional roots with contemporary forms. It will also highlight the relationship between theatre and society, showcasing theatre as a medium for storytelling, social commentary and new perspectives.
Connecting Young Audiences with Marathi Culture
According to the festival representatives, “Natrang Ubha” is also aimed at introducing young audiences to the diverse world of Marathi theatre and strengthening their connection with the Marathi language, literature and culture. A festival representative told Sachi Shiksha that the event seeks to bring together the traditional and contemporary dimensions of Marathi theatre in a manner that can engage younger generations.
The Marathi Vangmay Mandal, a 103-year-old institution, has served as a platform for students to engage with Marathi language, literature, culture and performing arts. Inaugural 2026 continues this tradition by using the performing arts to explore the evolution of Marathi theatre and its continuing relevance.
