Angels in the heaven Dera volunteers extend a helping hand Kulgam, Kashmir

They say that ‘eyes are the windows to the soul’. So when the soul bleeds, it shows up in the eyes. And the eyes of the flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir clearly displayed their pain and sufferings.

Landslides and floods have left hundreds of villages surrounding the capital Srinagar, and districts of Kulgam and Anantnag devastated beyond recognition. Countless lives have been lost in these areas and many have been rendered homeless, wives have lost their husbands and husbands their wives, many young children have been become orphans.

Those seriously injured during the devastation are still fighting for their lives. Houses have been flattened and property worth crores have been destroyed.

Tales of tragedies are being repeated by the day, but there seems to be no end to the sufferings of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In such a situation, Dera Sacha Sauda’s Shah Satnam Ji Green ‘S’ Welfare Force Wing isn’t just providing relief to the victims of the disaster in the form of supplies and aid, but it’s members are also busy sharing their pain and suffering. Stationed at CRPF’s camps, the Dera volunteers have been working round the clock in this hour of crisis.

Distribution of aid and essential supplies

The members of the Wing along with the jawans of the Indian Army prepared the draft for distribution of relief and essential supplies and on Sunday their reconnaissance teams surveyed Kulgam, Kalakund, Chamgun, Adigautan and other affected areas. Later, relief and essential supplies were distributed in these areas.

Elsewhere in Anantnag and Srinagar Dera, volunteers conducted endless rounds of meetings with the officers of the Indian Army and so also local officials, but on account of security reasons, the distribution of door-to-door relief material had to be postponed till Wednesday (September 24).

Besides this Dera’s mobile hospital called ‘Farishta’ that can function as an ICU, Operation theatre and an obstetric unit among other things has started its services in the affected regions.

Equipped with facilities at par with international standards, the self contained unit, that has a capacity for onsite trauma management or any other type of patient care, is manned by a team of five doctors along with 25 paramedical staff from the Shah Satnam Ji Speciality Hospital in Sirsa.

Volunteers of Shah Satnam Ji Green S Welfare Force Wing also donated 57 units of blood at She E Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences for the flood affected people. Volunteers also got busy in a cleanliness drive in Srinagar’s Asthvajan and Shivpora areas, and swept clean not just the streets and mohallas but also religious places like the masjids.

Apart from these Dare’s masons have already got on with the work of repairing residential and religious places in the affected areas.

The Indian Army has praised Dera Sacha Sauda and thanked Revered Guruji Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan for his timely efforts to help the victim of the floods in the Valley. Relief Commissioner in Srinagar, Shailendra Pratap and Divisional Commissioner Rohit Kansal along with other officials said that Dera Sacha Sauda has helped people of Kashmir in real time.

Not only have the volunteers reached to help out in this amazingly difficult time but the relief material sent by Dera Sacha Sauda is the biggest contingent received so far. From nowhere else has so much help been provided in this tough situation.

This is not the first occasion that Dera volunteers have come forward to the rescue of victims of disaster and natural calamities.

The Shah Satnam Ji Green ‘S’ Welfare Force Wing actively participated during relief operations when Uttarakhand was hit with massive floods and landslides. They were there when earthquakes hit Gujarat, during snowfall in Leh, when Tsunami struck Andaman Islands, during drought in Rajasthan, cyclone in Odisha and floods in Bihar.

We knew, Dera volunteers would come!

On Sunday, when the jawans of Shah Satnam Ji Green ‘S’ Welfare Force Wing reached Kelam-Gund village to inspect the damage caused by the ravaging flood, Khilal Butt, a local, came running to them and enquired,

“Are you gentlemen from Dera Sacha Sauda.” When he got an affirmative answer, he said, “I knew that Dera volunteers would come to our village and help us get over this calamity.”
Butt, went ahead and called his father too and they both narrated the tragic tale of their sufferings. Upon hearing their them, the members of the Shah Satnam Ji Green ‘S’ Welfare Force Wing promised to help them and the villagers in every possible way.
