After Gulmarg (Kashmir) and Narkanda (Himachal Pradesh), Auli is the most developed and modern centre for skiing, where people fulfill their dreams of skiing.

Natural Beauty:
Auli is blessed with natural beauty, the snow covered peaks and slopes please the heart. Here the snow is cottony soft and tourists specially kids take a lot of pleasure out of it. For lively people, Auli is an ideal place. Here you can pursue skiing and skiing only. When the sun rays fall on the mountain ranges, the burnished site that appears is beyond the boundaries of words.
‘Auli’ is a famous and beautiful tourist place in the Chamoli district of Uttarkhand. This place gives you a soothing feeling far from the madding crowd and suffocation of the city and it gives the feel of soothing wind that freshens up the tourists. Big white gleaming mountains, clouds in midst of fog, snow for miles together, attract the tourists here.
Historical Importance:
Spread from the height of 08 to 13 thousand feet, Auli was once known as ‘Sanjeevani Shikhar’. As per the ancient scripts, when Hanuman Ji came to this isolated mountain in the Himalayas, he could see Drongiri mountain carrying the treasure of Sanjeevani herb from this Sanjeevani Shikhar in Auli. Later Hanuman Ji’s idol got placed here. It is impossible to define the natural beauty spread from Sanjeevani Mountain to Auli.
Nature spreads its different colours in different ways. One can say, the natural sights here are unmatched. Wrapped in the green skin, Auli sounds at its full youth and similarly in winters, it wears the white attire of snow and sounds dignified. The important tourist spots at Auli are as follows:
Skiing Place:
In summers, the mountains are covered with shining green grass and sparkling flowers. Auli has a 03 km long interesting slope which ranges form the height of 2519 to 3049. This is India’s biggest skiing field.
Joshi Math:
This is the most pious place. It is believed that Chief Guru Shankaracharya achieved Knowledge at this place only. From here only starts the trip to Badrinath. Apart from it one can even roam into ‘Tapovan’.
Mundali
This is 129 kilometers away from Dehradoon. One can see the romantic sight of the Himalaya’s snow covered peaks from here. This is a good slope for skiing.
Rope Way in Auli
Here one is taught to do skiing. Gadwal Mandal Development Corporation has arranged for skiing training here. Block provides 7 day non-certificate and 14 day certificate training. This training is given every year in between January and March. Apart from the block even private institutes give training. This depends on the choice of tourists.
Rajju Way
Experience of roaming changes with change in climate but the importance of rope way here remains the same. Perhaps, the biggest attraction here is rope way only. With the best technology of the world, used in its making, this is Asia’s second highest rope way with 04 kilometer length. In this rope way there are 10 big pillars and two cabins. Each cabin has seating capacity of 25 people. Its eighth pillar is in Auli. People getting down here get 800 meter long chair lift ready. Seating on this air chair, the tourists reach to the skiing centre, enjoying the slopes on the way.
From the cabin of this rope way, one can easily see the topography, residential areas, forests, sand fields from a considerable height. Seeing in front you can see Nanda Devi, Drone Giri, Neelkanth, Mana Peeth, Hathi Gauri etc. snow covered hills with a bird’s eye view.
Channa Kund
One kilometer from Gurso Bugyal and four kilometers from Auli, in the midst of the remote forest is situated a small pond of fresh water. However there is nothing special here but the peaceful and pleasant ambiance provides freshness to the soul.
Tapovan
Lot many tourists visit Tapovan situated on Joshi Math way. Main attraction of this place is the assortment of hot water springs. In the chillness of this place, the tourists cannot avoid taking a dip in hot water.
Seldhaar
3 kilometers ahead of Tapovan are the natural hot water springs. Water remains so hot that one can make tea out of it. This looks beautiful.
Kwari Bugyal
Nearly 16 kilometers from Auli, this place mesmerizes with its unparallel natural beauty. From here one can see the hills as well as valleys of the Himalayas. In hot days, people place tents here and enjoy sitting and lying down here. This is the best place for those who do tracking
Chinab Lake
15 kilometers from Joshi Math, one has to cross dense forests and the velvet grass fields. This is a beautiful lake that makes the ambiance so beautiful. Since this a very remote area, one must mind food and drinking water before coming and staying over here.
Best Time
However summers are very pleasing in Auli, but in rains, this place offers view of wide range of flowers and plants. Seeing the importance and value of this place, best time to visit this place is mid December to mid March.
How to Go?
By Road:
it is situated merely at the distance of 13 kilomeetrs from Joshi Math. This is approximately 500 kilometers from Delhi and from Dehradoon it is nearly 273 kilometers.
By Train:
To go to Auli you need to catch a train from Dehradoon or Haridwar. Then you must use road ways.
By Air:
You will be able to reach up to Dehradoon only. The earest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradoon). The distance of Auli is 286 kilometers.
